Election Galore

Last year a friend requested me to help him with his Persatuan Orang Kota Bharu (POKB). My role would be to act like a think tank on education matters. The Persatuan's main role is to help anybody hailing from Kota Bharu particularly in business, education and health. I agreed to be part of this Persatuan provided that the aid would not be biased to any political party.
My personal view has been that as an academician I have taken the stance of not belonging to any political party. I wish to exercise my freedom to voice concerns when there are unhealthy practices.
Lately, there has been a number of by-elections. I used to remember a time when not much attention is given to by-elections. Now, the whole entourage would hit the small town and the latest is Tenang. There was a time when PAS delegates would put up in the smaller and cheaper hotels as budget was limited. Well folks not anymore. Four days ago I was in Johor Bharu for a meeting with IPASA of UTM and bumped into YB Nizar, ex-MB of Perak at the Puteri Pacific. So, PAS is not so frugal anymore and don't see any wrong in choosing comfort and splurging on five-star hotels.
My question to the politicians is that why do you make promises, saying that you will help the community if you are elected. I remembered in one instance that a bridge would be built if BN wins in this parliamentary by-election. Isn't that disguised bribery. I will only do the work if you vote for me. If not your are not getting your bridge even though you are a citizen of Malaysia and deserves the help from the government. Anyone out there please care to explain.
In developed nations the government work for the people. Period.
One thing though that still has not changed. During our drive down south we overtook some 30 FRU trucks. Strong police presence can only mean that there will be trouble.
All is not lost though as we strive to educate the people of this great nation, our beloved Malaysia. Perhaps in a few years time we can see more civilised debates in parliament. No more kangaroo courts posters and walkouts but a parliament that does work for the people.

LadyGagah,

Perhaps there are a few out there but they are diminishing! All is not lost though as the nation becomes more literate the people will do the work irrespective of who is in power.

Nina! Prof ... I love science!

I hate politics, not because of the displine but 'cos of the politicians. But who are they? They are just elected people amongst us, or people amongst us who think they can lead, then we elect them. They made promises because, we (the majority) tought (directly or not) to make them.

If politics is as simple as 2H + O then we are all ini safe hands, but unfortunately, in politics, anything can be made to look like water. Yes there is real H2O, then there is hard H2O and there are a lot of variations of anything but H2O. That is ithe silibus in politics, not only played by the politicians, but the people who elect them.

Pak Din,
Indeed there are variations in water but we can only drink safe water. Scientists have developed various technology to ensure that polluted water is treated to yield safe water. However the safe water may be tainted during the delivery. Politicians must come up with laws and regulations to ensure that the distribution of safe water is carried out fairly!
